Marketing - What Are Your Concern? (1 of 10)

Marketing is concern about your strategy. What do I mean by strategy for marketing? Marketing is concern about Price, Promotion, Place and Product. Generally we call them the 4 Ps.

Marketing’s first concern is about product. You would surely want to know this product is target at who. Who are your customers? Why they need your products? Marketing would want us to rephrase the question – by asking what benefits are these product offered to the users?

You would move on to the next question, how much they are willing to pay. Marketing is concern with price too. Where are we positioning our products? Which group of consumers are we targeting? For men or women or both? What is their disposable income? In other word, what Marketing want us to establish the income group and the amount they are prepared to spend on our products.

Marketing would ask you the next element. How do your potential customers know that you are producing this product and providing this service for them? Marketing is concern about promotion. Promotion is an activity to reach out to your potential customers.

We also need the distribution channels to help to potential clients and how to reward them for using our product. Should your products is for retailing. Marketing forces us to think about the last of 4Ps – place. Place plays an important element. Are you going to retail your products at shopping malls, shop houses, retail outlets, home-parties, retailing @ the net, and others. When we are selling at super marts or hyper marts, then the display at which place is equally significant.

Marketing is also concerned about wet sampling is you are retailing beverages or wines for instance. How do we select the right counter promoters to do wet sampling? Likewise, you may consider participating in exhibition or fair to gain exposure for your products.

Product packing and branding is another added dimension for you to think through. Marketing covers more when we talk about service marketing. We will deal with it in my later sharing on service marketing.

You would be surprise that Marketing needs strategy whereby the marketing activities would provide the direction for action to reach out to your desired customers to buy your products at the price they prepared to part with. So, it is important to have the appropriate strategy for marketing.
