“Human Resources” - getting the right people to do the right job is always the task of manager. Nonetheless, very little time and effort is invested to acquire knowledge on interview and selection.
We, human resources professional need to advocate that line managers also responsible for the human resource function. Line managers decide who he wants to hire and fire. Human Resource manager is to provide service and guide for line managers. Human Resource manager is to develop a set of guides for the line managers to select the right candidate(s) for the right placement.
What will happen when we place the wrong person on the job? You guess them correctly that the company’s mission may not be fully accomplish or take a longer time frame as the deliverable of the products and services.That’s why we always emphasize that the Human Resource should take the lead to plan for training in this area.
Human Resource profession would argue that line managers are very busy and have not time to acquire the techniques in Human Resource selection process.
When we approach one of the line managers, he highlight that it is the same as Human Resource Planning process. If the Human Resource Manager initiates it, he believes that the heads of department will see the benefits for getting the right people on the right job
Also the staff would feel the chances for them to grow with the organisation.
You would wonder why it is so. Interview and selection skills and techniques are useful for recruitment, promotion, career planning, and Human Resource needs analysis.
Interview techniques would cover:

one to one interview,
-
two on one interview, or
-
a team to interview
For each setting, the requirement is different and preparation would be required.
For example, one of the criteria is teamwork, how are you going to find out whether he is a team player or not. So you may want a team to talk to him. The team members must be able to use the criterion to establish. This falls on the shoulder of Human Resource.
